CRAB APPLE DISPLAY

Only Mother Nature knows when this display will begin, so watch for a newpaper announcement.The week of April 23 through about six to eight days looks to be the best bet, weather temperatures being the determining factor.

Bring your camera. Bring out your family, your significant other, and photgraph all bathed in blooms. Bring your prom couples out for prom photos throughout the arboretum amidst the spring flowers.

June 2018

CONCERT-IN-THE-ARB SERIES begins

Sunday afternoon, June 24 at 4 PM.

The Firelands String Quartet will be presenting another of its outdoor concerts. So bring your chairs and blankets, come early and stake out a place in the shade, and chill out with your snacks and beverages in the shade, under our grove on the banks of Parker Lake at a site right off the student parking lot.


July 2018

Sunday afternoon, July 29, at 4 PM.

The first-ever Blue Grass concert will be given by the Ottowa County Bluegrass Band. Bring a lawn chair and picnic and get ready for a fun, festive Summer Ensemble Concert with the Ottawa County Bluegrass Band on Sunday, July 29, 2018 at the McBride Arboretum. This is a Bluegrass experience you won't want to miss! You'll hear the acoustic guitar's incessant boom chucka boom chucka of alternating bass lines layered over wonderfully harmonious strings or the delightful slide of a resonating guitar. And of course when you hear the blissful vocal harmonies that tell such wonderful humanistic stories, you have entered the Bluegrass dominion.



INVASION OF THE BUTTERFLIES - On any sunny afternoon in mid- to late-July, the butterfies will not disappoint you.

The perennial beds and meadows are alive with blooms that attract butterflies and all sorts of nectar seeking insects. Our Butterfly Garden especially will not disappoint. So bring your camera and the kids. If you want to bring butterfly nets, do so, but please release your butterflies after inspecting them with the kids and photographing them.

AUGUST 2018

CONCERT-IN-THE-ARB SERIES, Sunday, August 19 at 6:30 PM.

The entire Firelands Symphony Orchestra will NOT be performing at the McBride Arboretum, but instead will be performing a free outdoor concert to help celebrate the Sandusky City Bicentennial. Featuring: Carl Topilow, Music Director and Conductor Firelands Symphony Orchestra, Full Orchestra Local High School Bands Dan May, Guest Vocalist Gospel ... Much, much more to be announced as the date nears. Save the date and time and be ready for a real rocking evening in Sandusky.

HURON GARDEN CLUB ARBORETUM TOUR, Friday, August 24 at 10 AM

A private tour of the arboretum will be given to members of the Huron Garden Club. However, you also can arrange for a group tour for your club or organization by calling 419-357-6245 and asking for Mike to make your arrangements.

2018 Falcon Fund Run

Run in the 5K run at BGSU Fireland College and the James H. McBride Arboretum to help raise funds for scholarships to Firelands College BGSU.


Tired of the run-of-the-mill road races? Try the 2018 Falcon Fund Run - a grassy, flat course which starts on the BGSU Firelands campus and meanders through the McBride Arboretum. Walkers and runners are welcome. The 2018 Falcon Fund Run is a fund raising initiative for scholarships at BGSU Firelands. All proceeds will provide educational opportunities for area students.

Details and Location

The event is being held on the BGSU Firelands campus and begins at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 15, 2018. Event day registration and bib pickup will begin at 7:30 a.m. and is located in the North Building room 163.

Cost for the 2018 Falcon Fund Run is $20 and includes a free t-shirt and refreshments after the race. T-shirts are not guaranteed after the pre-registration deadline. The Preregistration deadline is September 1, 2018 at 5 p.m. Registration forms can be completed online or by downloading the form and returning to the address indicated.
