Only Mother Nature knows when this display will begin, so watch for a newpaper announcement.The week of April 23 through about six to eight days looks to be the best bet, weather temperatures being the determining factor.

Bring your camera. Bring out your family, your significant other, and photgraph all bathed in blooms. Bring your prom couples out for prom photos throughout the arboretum amidst the spring flowers.

June 2019


Sunday afternoon, June 30 at 4 PM.

The High Frequency Flute Quartet will be presenting an outdoor concert on the Deering Terrace. Park off Rye Beach Road in Lot H. So bring your chairs and blankets, come early and stake out a place in the shade.

July 2019

Sunday afternoon, July 21, at the Huron Methodist Church, enjoy the Firelands String Quartet playing the classical pieces and many more contemporary pop culture tunes.

INVASION OF THE BUTTERFLIES - On any sunny afternoon in mid- to late-July, the butterfies will not disappoint you.

The perennial beds and meadows are alive with blooms that attract butterflies and all sorts of nectar seeking insects. Our Butterfly Garden especially will not disappoint. So bring your camera and the kids. If you want to bring butterfly nets, do so, but please release your butterflies after inspecting them with the kids and photographing them.


August 4, at 6 PM, join us in downtown Sandusky at the foot of Columbus Avenue at the Mylander-Shade Plaza for an entertaining session of the Samba Joia, a Brazilian-African ensemble that is guaranteed to please you.

CONCERT-IN-THE-ARB SERIES, Sunday, August 25th at 7 PM.

The entire Firelands Symphony Orchestra will be performing its annual Pops Concert at the McBride Arboretum, free of charge to the general public, under the direction of Maestro Carl Topilow. Bring your lawn chair or blanket, load up the kids, and come on out for an evening of popular music. Byron Stripling will be performing trumpet pieces.



September 7, at 7 PM, join the Falcon Fun Run and help raise money for student scholarships at Firelands College BGSU.

Run in the 5K run at BGSU Fireland College and the James H. McBride Arboretum.

Tired of the run-of-the-mill road races? Try the 2019 Falcon Fund Run - a grassy, flat course which starts on the BGSU Firelands campus and meanders through the McBride Arboretum. Walkers and runners are welcome. The 2019 Falcon Fund Run is a fund raising initiative for scholarships at BGSU Firelands. All proceeds will provide educational opportunities for area students.


The event is being held on the BGSU Firelands campus and begins at 7 PM on Saturday, September 7, 2019. Event day registration and bib pickup will begin at 5:30 p.m. and is located in the North Building room 163.

Cost for the 2019 Falcon Fund Run is $20 and includes a free t-shirt and refreshments after the race. T-shirts are not guaranteed after the pre-registration deadline. The Preregistration deadline is August 24 at 5 p.m. Registration forms can be completed online or by downloading the form and returning to the address indicated.


September 8 at 4 PM, the Ottawa County Blue Grass Band will be performing at the arboretum just off the student parking lot off the Boss Road entrance to Firelands College BGSU. Bring your lawn chair and enjoy an afternooon of real down-home, foot-stomping music, courtesy of one of the area's best known groups.
