Welcome to "The Arts in the Arb" 2019 Concert Series

Founded in 1983 by James McBride, the first Dean of BGSU Firelands College, the arboretum today has grown from a cornfield to THE horticultural landscape gem in Erie County. The college and its adjacent arboretum together comprise about 59 acres, with the eventual goal of becoming known as an arboretum with a college located within. The arboretum is readily accessible off a separate driveway on Boos Road or by walkways from any of the campus parking lots. Admission is always FREE, and the arboretum itself is open daily from dawn until dusk.

The collection of trees and shrubs today numbers in excess of two hundred species and growing, with most native to the Firelands area. We also feature several restored prairie plots, with plants faithful to the original area prairies. Asphalt walking paths of about a half mile surround the three lobes of our Parker Lake, while many trails will guide the willing hikers down into the forested areas along Sawmill Creek. Venture also out into our prairies, meadows, and savannas, and there lose yourself surrounded by undisturbed beauty.

Beautifully landscaped gardens dot the premises, loaded with annuals and perennials. We offer four season beauty and invite all out to experience the tranquil quality of nature at her finest. The entire area is family friendly, but we urge parents to keep a sharp eye on youngsters near the waters. Absolutely no swimming or skating is permitted in or on the lakes. And, as always, we urge our visitors to leave the premises as they found it. Let those who come after you see the same flowers, and try not to let the little ones tromp over the wild flowers in the spring time! DO ENJOY!

"I think that I shall never see / A poem lovely as a tree. . . .
Poems are made by fools like me, / But only God can make a tree."

Joyce Kilmer
